The AYDS Diet Plan stands as one of the all-time greatest branding bad-luck stories out there, to be sure.

I remember reading an article in the early 80's in which a company representative was asked if there would be any name changes in light of the emergence of the new disease with the similar name.

The answer was a firm "no."

"The disease can change its name," huffed the spokesperson.

Okay. Maybe that wasn't the best call in retrospect.
